Delightfully simple

Mary and I attended a Presbyterian-esque service yesterday at a local seminary in Kampala.  The lead pastor is the guy who owns the compound that we are living in (please note: compound in US = creepy cult; compound in most African countries = place with big fences for security).  It was a relatively small service (I would guess about 30 people), but was wonderfully diverse, including students from Uganda, Kenya, DRC, Burundi, Sudan, and others that I can't remember.  What was so pleasantly simple was that the majority of the service was akin to a childrens' service at home.  I don't mean that it was patronizing or unintelligent, but rather that we sang songs like "deep and wide" and had the plan of salvation presented in plain language.  The carrot of faith was emphasized with peripheral mentions of the stick of the result of sin.  Like our church at home, it made being a Christian sound like a nice way to live and approach others, as opposed to just being a way to avoid Hell.
