We're so grateful for a safe trip back to Kenya. Although still somewhat delirious, we are starting to adjust to the time change. Lizzie was a trooper on the flights. She certainly had some toddler-moments, but overall tolerated the 13 hour flight really well. This would be the case even if it were not for the the rather louder and less happy 2-year-old riding two rows ahead of us, to whom I am quite grateful for raising the bar of infant-noise expectations.
We continue to the quarantine guidelines, but luckily the compound is quite large, and there are lots of places to explore. I think a goal of mine during our time here is to come up with a different descriptor than "compound," which, outside of mathematics, has far too much of a militaristic-cultish vibe.
We have a little time for adjustment and preparation before we start clinical work; we are hoping to take Lizzie to see the giraffes or elephants during that time.
I'll try to update again when I have something to write about other than my opinions on the vernacular use of "compound." As Swahili speakers would say when speaking English, "bye for now."
